PKU Anamix Infant is a food for special medical purposes for the dietary management of proven phenylketonuria (PKU) in infants from birth to 12 months and as a supplementary feed up to 3 years. This product is in powder form available in 400g tin.
PKU Anamix infant is an amino acid based phenylalanine-free powdered feed containing essential and non-essential amino acids, carbohydrate, fat, fibre, vitamins, minerals and trace elements. Also contains the prebiotic fibre blend scGOS:lcFOS (9:1).
Protein content: 13.1g PE / 100g. Allergens: contains milk.
Important notice: For enteral use only. Not for parenteral use. Must be used under medical supervision. Not suitable as a sole source of nutrition. For use in infants and as a supplementary feed in young children. Only to be used by patients with proven phenylketonuria (PKU) and hyperphenylalaninaemia (HPA).
Precautions: This product should not be used as a sole source of protein but must be given in conjunction with a protein source e.g. breast milk or proprietary infant formula to supply the phenylalanine, fluid and general nutritional requirements of the infant in quantities as prescribed by a clinician or dietitian.
Suggested intake: The quantity of feed and the dilution should be determined by a clinician or dietitian only, and is dependent on age, bodyweight and medical condition of the patient.
Recommended feed concentration:
The recommended feed concentration is 15% w/v (15g of product made up to a final volume of approximately 100ml with water). Osmolality at this concentration is 380 mOsmol/kg H2O.
Use immediately after reconstitution. Formula must not be rewarmed during feeding.
Unopened: Store in a cool, dry place.
Opened: Use within two weeks. Always replace container lid after use.
Prepared feed: Formula remaining in the bottle after one hour of feeding should be discarded.

Breastfeeding is best for babies and a healthy diet/proper nutrition of the mother is important while breastfeeding. The decision not to breastfeed can be difficult to reverse.
