However, they can be a bit challenging for someone on a restricted diet as most festivities center around food. This blog focuses on tips for managing a restricted diet during the holiday season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The most important thing to do is plan ahead.&nbsp; The more you know in advance, the better you can plan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here are some questions to ask yourself:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Where will I be spending the holidays, and how long will the trip be?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Do I have enough formula, so I do not run out while away over the weekend?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Am I dining at home or at someone else\u2019s home?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Will I be preparing the food, or will someone else be?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Once you know more about what your day\/ weekend will look like, you can make a plan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>One key thing is to plan the menu in advance.<\/em>&nbsp; If you are not dining at home, but at a friend\u2019s or relative\u2019s home, it will be important to ask what is being served, then\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Ask if you can bring a side dish (one that is suitable for you, but enough for everyone to share).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Let them know about your dietary needs so they can omit or serve items on the side that are not suitable for a low protein diet, like cheese or breadcrumbs.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>See if you can access the kitchen to re-heat or make additional low protein items for the holiday meal.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Get Creative!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Many traditional holiday favorites can be modified to reduce the protein while keeping the taste and texture you and others love.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"\/en-us\/potato-mash\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">See here for our simple recipe for reduced protein mashed potatoes<\/a> \u2013 this dish is sure to become a family staple at your holiday meal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And end your holiday meal on a sweet note with this low protein dessert.&nbsp; This is a dish everyone at your holiday gathering is sure to enjoy!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group has-background is-layout-flow wp-block-group-is-layout-flow\" style=\"background-color:#f1eff5\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Easy Pumpkin Pudding<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Recipe developed by Sarah Marshall, classical Phenylketonuria (PKU)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ingredients<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>1 fluid ounce water<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>7 fluid ounces\u00a0coconut milk (full fat, canned coconut milk required to get pudding-like consistency)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>6 whole pistachios (for flavor, to be strained out later)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u00bd tablespoon brown sugar<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u00bc teaspoon pumpkin pie spice (or blend of cinnamon, ginger and nutmeg)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u00bd teaspoon vanilla flavoring<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u00bd cup low protein rice<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Directions<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>In a small saucepan, add 1 oz water, 7 oz coconut milk, and 6 pistachios.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Bring to a boil. Immediately when it begins boiling, add brown sugar, vanilla, and pumpkin pie spice. Stir.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Add low protein rice. Stir.
